When it comes to dating, there are many ways the date can go based on how we act. If we are too chatty, we may not even hear what's on the other person's mind, but if we're too quiet then we may be classified as boring..lol So, the question becomes "How should one act on a date?
Well, I'm not here to tell you how to act, but what I can give you are some insights that I have found to be most rewarding in many of my encounters. So if you're ready to up your dating game, Let's Begin..
Well, I'm not here to tell you how to act, but what I can give you are some insights that I have found to be most rewarding in many of my encounters. So if you're ready to up your dating game, Let's Begin..
Stop Trying To Impress
When it comes to dating one of the worst things anyone can do is to not be themselves. Not saying someone shouldn't put their best foot forward, but what we don't want to do is present an image that we can't uphold. If you start off a date which could potentially blossom into a full blown relationship as something you're not, eventually you will burn out and the truth will shine through. For example, if you play Mr.Big Willie with your measly $250 check you just got from working two weeks at Dominos, what will you do when the money's gone? Being honest with yourself and the other person is the best way to save yourself trouble down the road. Lying about your money or status is the easiest way to set yourself up for disappointment. |
Listen More And Talk About Yourself Less
"So I was talking to Trevor and he told me that Sue was dating Dan and Pete never even knew that I used to date Steve" "Okay, so what are you even talking about? I thought we were on a date here? I'm trying to get to know you not what all your friends are doing." "Are you even listening to what I just said about how my last girlfriend was a drama queen?" Yikes, no one wants to have a conversation like this, but it can easily happen when we just ramble on and on and on... When you're on a date, it's good to "talk with" rather than "at" someone. If you were on a talk show or an interview, rambling on about all the things you find interesting would be perfect, but not on a date. Communication is a two-way street,, not a one way road;) |
Be Present...Not Distracted
Don't you just love sitting on the beach with your date enjoying the sounds of the ocean while they text frantically on their cell phone? Nothing better than talking to someone and being able to see that the cat picture on Facebook is way more interesting than spending time with you. Oh, that doesn't make you feel all tingly inside? Well then, this one is a no-brainer isn't it? |
Get Off Your High Horse
Yes, you are the most beautiful girl in the room and I am glad you are a vegan, but let's remember this is a date not a pageant. Before you even hit the door to go out on your date, put up the soapbox. Just throw it in the attic before you even put on your shoes. Nobody wants to sit across the table from Ms. Perfect or Mr. Universe. Be yourself, but don't try to force your views on anyone or make them feel inferior while your head is stuck up your a.. |
Be Loose Not F'd Up
Now this one can be a little tricky depending on the environment, but the rule is simple. Hold Your Liquor! If you can't drink, don't. And if you can drink, don't drink too much. Sloshing your words and crawling to the bathroom is not a good look at all. The last thing you want to do on a date is face plant into that bowl of nachos you've been picking at for the last 2 hours. Be smart not disorderly. |
Don't Be A Pig
Do we even need to go here? I mean the picture and the title says it all..lol Look, nothing is wrong with having a healthy appetite. It looks good on you and people respect that, but... Just because dinner is free there is no need to lose your damn mind..lol People, the food is not the center piece of a date, it's merely a compliment to your amazing get-to-know each other conversation. |
Smile & Have Fun
Look, when it's all said and done, the best thing to remember on a date is to have fun. Be yourself, be present and relax. Stressing out over every little thing we can do wrong on a date will not only hold us back, but it can almost guarantee we don't get another one. I wrote these tips in the hopes that you gain insight about dating, but at the same time have a smile or two along the way..lol Now I'm curious to know, what would be your tips? Until next time.... -Jamaal(LoverOfLife) |
