When it comes to budgeting and your relationships, things can go one of two ways. Really Good or Really Bad. Now of course this all depends on your understanding of money, but that's an entirely different conversation..lol Today, we're just going to focus on discussing how a healthy budget impacts a relationship versus how a raggedy budget affects a relationship. Ready to see the differences?
Healthy Budgets Are Heaven
Ah yes, to be a kid again, were those not the days? To be carefree, without a worry in the world, but then we grew up. Yep, we grew up got jobs and started taking on responsibility and some of us bit off more than we could chew. Moment of silence for those still choking.... Well hopefully, for the rest of us, we have learned throughout the years that money is not just something you buy stuff with, but something that helps one meet their needs. For without money, things can be a lot tougher than they need to be. For example, if you want to stop for a burger and don't have the money, you can just eat a ham sandwich and call it a day, but if Babe want's a burger on a date, you need to deliver. I mean if someone can't afford a burger, how the hell are they going to be able to support their partner in serious relationship? |
This is where budgeting becomes beneficial and rewarding, after so many years of sacrifice. Learning how to meet one's own needs with the income they generate from work or other means of income is definitely a sign of strength in a relationship. No one wants to take on a burden, most people want an equal.
Now, without going too much into the psychology of all that jazz, let's look at a few perks associated with having a solid budget in our relationships.

Of course there are plenty of additional benefits to having a solid budget outside of relationships, but these are just a few related to our conversation To put it simply, having a secure budget as an individual or together with the babe can help the two of you achieve your dreams faster, with less stress and with a lower probability of breaking up. After all, money is one of the biggest relationship stressors.
Because Being Broke Is Hell
So now if you've made it this far, you probably know what the other side of the coin looks like or lack thereof. Being broke is the pits and not just for the one without money, it affects both of parties in a relationship. When someone is without money and not able to meet their own needs they tend to rely on those with financial resources. You know the type, the "Hey, loan me five dollars til payday" or "Come on babe, buy me these shoes". |
Of course, you want to help or be helped, but this will quickly put a strain on the relationship. It's the same reason people don't borrow money from relatives, it just doesn't work. At some point, someone will feel that the other doesn't contribute and this will not only make them feel like a bank, but used.
Now we can't have that in a healthy relationship can we? Do you want to feel used? I know I don't and that's why I do everything I can to ensure that I live within my means and save whenever possible.
However, some people don't live like that. There are people walking around spending what little money they have like tomorrow is just a myth and the "rent" is money that can be used to buy a new pair or shoes or something like an Xbox -_- Good luck with that one..lol Have you ever been in a relationship with someone that couldn't manage their money well? If so, how did it make you feel? Did you feel like you had an equal or someone you had to support?
Now again, some folks enjoy supporting their partners and providing the finances, but for most relationships just starting out, the tables need to be equal. Both individuals need to contribute their fair share on dates, trips, food and whatever else you two kinksters are into..lol
So knowing that, let's look at a few cons associated with having a raggedy budget in relationships
