In a world where everyone is so consumed with having one of those cute "cookie cutter" relationships we've all seen in the movies, it can be challenging not to rush things.
You want the cute puppy and the passionate weekend getaway from the start. You want the laugh all night couples' date with friends. You may even want to start planning how you'll raise a child together.
But, before you go all Gung Ho and ruin a potentially decent relationship, it's important to remember that these things take time. Now, why do these things take time? Well, it's because...

Every Relationship Is Different
No two relationships will have the same interactions as the next, no matter how similar they may start or appear to someone looking in from the outside.
There are several variables that impact how a relationship will naturally mature, these factors can include things like:
All of these things play a major role in why your relationship may not be flying along as quickly as the fake couples you see in your favorite show. The relationships on tv/film are scripted and designed to feed into that fantasy most people will never attain.
When you actually talk to couples that have been together for 20+ years, they will tell you that it's not all daffodils and ice cream(If they're being honest). It takes hard work, time and patience to nuture a relationship that can endure the tests of time. So try not to get stuck in the trap of comparing your relationship to what you see other people doing in theirs.

Rome Wasn't Built In A Day
Do you remember that moment when you finally made it to prom during those dreadful high school years? Do you remember how long it was between the time you thought about going and the time you actually went?
Now, if you're one of the ladies that didn't go to the prom at all, just think about something that you had to wait years to achieve like maybe your high school or college graduation.
Well, if you hit either one or all of those milestones, you'll know that it took years or is still a work in progress. Sure it seems easy enough, just wait until your older or get good grades, but you and I both know life is not always a straight path.
Things happen and when things happen, we have to adjust. In doing so, all types of things can occur like losing focus, moving, family drama and missing opportunities.
The only ones that actually get to walk across that stage or make it to prom are the ones that persevered through all the difficulty that life can throw at us. Unless, they just had some random stroke of luck and got asked to the prom as a freshman..lol But you know what I mean.
Anything worth having is worth waiting for and somethings you just can't rush no matter how bad you want them. And even sometimes, when you wait and do everything possible, it just doesn't work out the way you had it all planned.
Sure you made it across the stage, but you didn't know you'd be doing it on crutches. Sure, you went to the prom, but who knew you're boyfriend was going to sleep with your best friend the night before.
This is life. This is the struggle. This is the reason Rome wasn't built in a day.
There's only so much you can control within this wonderful ball of life and for the rest, you must be patient. You must be diligent. You must be accepting of the fact that even when you do everything right that not everything will always work out.
