In any good conversation with the opposite sex or at least a person of interest, the question of one's relationship status often comes up. So what do we say? Well, we say things like, "I'm single" or "I'm in a relationship", but what does it really mean? And even more, what does your relationship status say to other people about you?
Are you curious to know? Well, get ready because that's the topic of tonight's relationship insight. We're going to explore several common relationship status responses and examine what saying something like, "It's complicated" says to someone about you.
Are you curious to know? Well, get ready because that's the topic of tonight's relationship insight. We're going to explore several common relationship status responses and examine what saying something like, "It's complicated" says to someone about you.
Now before you jump in, realize that the statuses are in no particular order, except for the first one. So feel free to find your status first, then go back and read the others to see what is said. Enjoy ^_^
"I'm Single"
The reason I chose this one first is because all of us have been single whether or not we're in a relationship now. Being single is the starting point in anyone's relationship journey. First, we are one, then we become two and for some three, but that's a cat of a different color..lol When you tell someone that you're "single", this means you're not in a committed relationship, you don't have any attachments and you are available to date-should you choose. People may interpret this proclamation as an open invitation to move forward in their pursuit. Or they may even question the truth behind your angelic appearance. "What is it that she's not telling me?" "Is something wrong with her?" "This is too good to be true" |
"In A Relationship"
Well, of course this one means that you're seeing someone, but it doesn't really say that you're in a committed relationship. Are you in a relationship with someone that you don't really have a true connection with? Is this just something you're doing until someone better comes along? With that said, don't be alarmed when people continue to ask you out..lol Some people like a challenge, even while others take this as a "No". |
"It's Complicated"
As if things couldn't get any crazier, they went and came up with "It's complicated"..lol Okay, so what the hell does that mean? Are you sleeping with a zebra and married to a monkey? WTF? If you want to confuse someone, you say this because it means your "situation" is too chaotic or simply beyond human ability to put into words. Anyone with an IQ above 50 will take this as a warning to steer clear, unless they like drama. |
"I'm Engaged"
You're engaged? Really? So whose the lucky guy? When you tell someone that you're "engaged", it means you are in a committed relationship with someone that you are planning to marry. Determined suitors will take your words into consideration, but will not be utterly deterred. Why? Because engagements are only a trial run of the real thing. |
"I'm Married"
Well now, this is just fantastic, especially in today's times. You have found someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with, that's amazing! When you tell someone that you are "married", it means that you are spoken for and you want nothing other than if even friendship with another person. Your ring needs no translation or interpretation. |
"Separated"
Okay, so everything isn't always peaches and cream, we know this..hopefully..lol Telling someone that you're "separated" means that you are legally committed to one person, but you're heart and body have moved on. People will take this as you're admission of having a failed marriage that you cannot sever for one reason or another. |
